Jessica Reed walked in her usual casual step throughout the Makutu Mall, for a place that wasn't renowned in shopping, this mall was pretty good. It was nothing like the ones in Boston but it was the best shopping facility she had come by since she moved to New Zealand. Jess had told her parents she would be out shopping for the day however she left the house with not a coin in her pocket. She had no intention of shopping today, shopping wasn't her favourite hobby, she enjoyed it from time to time but she wasn't one of those girls who spent thousands of galleons on a dress just because it had a certain label attached to it. No, Jess was the more of a laid back kind of person, the girl who laughed at these 'glamour queens'. Today she wore one of her typical outfits, an outfit that suited her personaility perfectly. She was in the mall for about an hour, walking endlessly through shops knowing that she had no money to spend. She would browse through clothes knowing she didn't need (or really like) any of them. It was just something to do, to keep her mind off reality. That she was now living in New Zealand. New Zealand! Everyone she loved was back home in Boston and she was stuck in New Zealand? It didn't seem right or fair. Feeling fed up she sat down on the marbel edge of a circular fountain in the midddle of the mall. She grazed her skinny fingers over the tip of the water, the galleons underneath shimmered brightly. It was mesmerising. She quickly looked away and realized she had dunked her whole hand into the water, "Aah!" She said while giving it a quick shake. A group of girls sitting near her on the fountain edge moved up, away from her, not that she really cared. Jess ran her hand through her chestnut brown hair and waited. For what she didn't know. She just waited for time to pass, like she did most days. |

Jennifer Wilkonson walked into the Makutu Mall for the first time. She hadn't remembered this before she left and thought it was a lovely addition, for Christmas shopping anyway but the rest she could care for and she really didn't want to be shopping. She just wanted to get out of the school and be away from anyone that she actually knew. She passed the Glam Squad on the way there and they made their self-righteous comments about her outfit and she almost snapped right back at them, daring them to mess with her in the violent mood she was in but in the corner of her cerulean blue eyes she caught a face that looked familiar. Instantly she forgot about the girls and walked skeptically towards the girl. Jenn was certain this wasn't who she thought it was but as she realized it was Jess she grinned brightly as she stood in front of her Salem best friend. "J!" she exclaimed, flabbergasted the the brunette was in New Zealand of all places. "Stand up and give me a hug right now!" she ordered playfully. lame! |

Jess was rubbing her wet hand into her trousers when she heard a very familar voice, she looked up in disbelief, Jennifer Wilkonson. Jess' mouth dropped, she knew Jenny had moved to New Zealand but she had not expected to see her here at all. Jennifer had moved from Salem last year and Jess was completely distraught, she was her best friend. She jumped up to her feet and happily wrapped her hands around her, "JENNY!" She yelled excitedly, not daring to let her go. She had not felt so happy in such a long time. She couldn't believe she had found her best friend once more. She knew the girls on the fountain were looking at them but she didn't give a crap. A familiar face in New Zealand was one thing, but a best friend was on an entirely different level. Deciding to let her go, Jess stepped back and beamed at her friend. She didn't know where to begin, she didn't know what to say. Should she start by how much she missed this girl? Or should she ask how things were at home? She knew before Jenny left things were getting pretty rough for her. Finally making a decision she said, "I'm sorry I didn't write. I kinda lost your address." She admitted shamefully, but she wasn't expecting Jenny to be suprised. This was Jessica Reed afterall, not one of the most attentive people around. Jessica ran her hand through her brown hair still in shock, she let out a small laugh before hugging her friend once more. "I can't believe you're here!" She excalimed squeezing her friend in delight. |

Jenn wrapped her arms around Jessie when she stood up smiling so wide that her face actually hurt from the unfamiliar expression. She laughed happily as she thought of how little she had expected of this day. When they left each other go and she apologized to her for not writing, she rolled her cerulean blue eyes playfully. "Are you kidding? This makes up for it ten times over Jess!" As they hugged once more, she squealed girlishly and said, "Gah I've missed you!" Jennifer pulled back slightly and asked, "What are you doing here though?" In unexpected delight, the blonde wrapped her arms around the girl tightly once more before pulling away completely. "Is Mum here?" she asked excitedly, referring to her best friend's mother, who she thought of as her own mother, the woman actually cared about her, not like her awful family. Jenny looked around, hoping to see Jessie's Mom because just like she had missed the brunette, she had missed her mother just as much. "Please tell me you are transferring," she begged, hoping not to have to go back to school without her best friend once more. She and Jessica had been close, closer then she, Sam, Hoshi and Scorpius combined and it had been that way since they met. |

Jess bit the top of her lip excitedly before saying, "I've missed you too! Soooo much!" She said followed with a happy laugh. When they completely pulled away and Jenny asked if her mom was here, she shook her head, "No they're all at the house. I'll tell them all that you're here though. They'll be so happy!" Jess' whole family was very fond of Jenny. Jess saw Jenny as a sister anyway, the two had a friendship that was envied by others. Although there was the difference of a year in their age, Jess felt like she could tell Jenny anything and everything, she couldn't really remember a time when it wasn't that way. "Yeah! I'm transferring!" She said for the very first time in a happy tone. The day had just gotten better, she was going to school with Jenny again. "I can't believe this!" She exclaimed boucing lightly on the balls of her feet, "You wouldn't believe how worried I was that I'd have to transfer to Hogwarts." She said resuming her normal stance, "But now you're here. I'm actually looking forward to it!" Jess grinned excitedly. "Matt isn't though. He's being stubborn and not taking his NEWTS this year. He says he doesn't need the 'crap they teach in school to pursue his dream'." She said using her fingers to quote what her brother had said. Matthew was a very talented guitarist and singer and was in a band with a few of his friends, "He says he close to getting a record deal. Which is so great! But I think he should return to school..." She trailed off with a shrug. At first her parents were furious that he wouldn't transfer but they soon got to realize that he should just follow his dream. They figured he could always take the NEWTS later in life as a mature student. Jess ran her hand through her hair, "How are things with you? How's Hogwarts compared to Salem?" She asked with a wicked grin. She guessed Jenny didn't want to talk about family life in a shopping centre and as a friend she was in no way going to force it out of her. Jess never pushed Jenny to tell her anything about her family, it wasn't that she didn't care (because she really did) she just knew it was an awkward subject. She of course always listened and gave comfort when Jen felt like telling her but she was never one to push it out of her. |

Jennifer actually squealed with delight when Jess said that she was transferring to Hogwarts New Zealand. She hand't done that in forever, actually since she last saw Jessica she hadn't squealed or been so happy. "Great! You will love it there!" she exclaimed joyfully. She smiled warmly, listening to her best friend as she spoke about Matthew. She grinned pleased for the boy that everything was working out but she said nothing, she would congratulate him when he actually got a contract, which she assumed wouldn't take long, not with his raw talent. "Things are alright.. you know," Jen shrugged, knowing that her best friend knew that her father stayed in North America with her twin brother and that she was stuck living with her mother and unbenounced to her or her brother, she had a knew little sister. "It is alright. I miss everyone back at Salem but I missed Sam, Scorpius and Hoshi waaay too much," she said with a gentle sigh, how she longed for the friendship she once had but she knew she never would have it with them again, everyone changed so much since then. The only one that she could trust truly was Scorpius. |

Jess smiled bravely as Jenny said she would love it at Hogwarts. Hopefully she would love it, hopefully it would live up to its reputation as being one of the best schools around. Jess nodded understandingly as Jenny said things were alright. She knew they weren't going to be spectactular, but "alright" was definitely an improvement. She couldn't imagine what Jenny must have went through in the past year, she was so annoyed that she couldn't be there for her at the time. Jess hoped that those friends she had at Hogwarts were looking out for her, big time! "Oh yeah, I can't wait to meet those guys." She said her American accent as strong as always. When Jenny spoke about her friends Jess could tell that they were extremely close to her, maybe not as close as herself and Jenny but close all the same. It made her think about how much she would miss her friends back at Salem. Of course she hadn't stopped thinking about them since she came to New Zealand, it just really made her think a little deeper. At least Jenny went back to a school that had friends waiting for her with open arms. Things would be a lot different for Jess, especially that Jackson wouldn't be there. Jackson was her boyfriend of two years, she had utterly fallen for the boy and her heart ached everytime she thought about him. She gave her head a quick shake almost wishing these thoughts would just disappear, before smiling at Jenny, "How's Owen doing?" She asked her hoping that the conversation wasn't entering dangerous waters. |

Jennifer glanced over her shoulder as Jessica asked how Owen was doing. Her belly burned with irritation and disgust but not for her best friend, for her parents. Their son was fighting off death and they only thought about themselves, how horrible could someone be to do such a thing? "Honestly, I dunno," she said looking back up at her best friend. "Dad isn't giving Owen my letters and I don't think mother is giving me mine from Owen. People are ridiculous, did you know that?" she said incredulously before shrugging her shoulders. Of course there was more but she was not going to talk about that in a mall, surrounded by people she knew and people she didn't know. "Anyway," Jenny said, showing that she would like to brush past the topic of her family right now, perhaps later they would talk about it but not now. "Are you going back to Salem until next school year? If not you should come over during holidays, or better yet I'll visit you. I'd help y'all unpack, much better then spending another Christmas with mother," she said smiling brightly at the thought of being with her real family over the holidays, just as she had done during the break they shared when she attended Salem. Normally Jenn would never invite herself over to someone else's home but she knew for a fact that Jess's house was always open to her to go over. She had missed the Reed's so much when she left again and now that they had moved to New Zealand she didn't have to deal with that type of loneliness anymore. |

Jess shook her head sadly and then ran her hand through her brown hair, her hand lingered at the top of her head. "Jenny I'm sorry. Look things will get better, I mean they have to!" She said taking her hand from her head and grabbing Jenny's. She gave it a quick squeeze before letting go of it entirely. Jessica shoved both of her hands into her pockets as Jenny suggested that she would stay with them for the holidays. "Hell yeah!" Jessica grinned excitedly. She nodded her head, holidays were always well spent with Jenny. She had missed her last year but she was going to make sure that this year would make up for it. "Seriously though, we probably will still be unpacking. Especially at the rate we're going." She laughed, maybe it was the fact that only three members out of the family of five were helping unpack. Jess wasn't really bothered and Matt claimed he had to 'practice his music', although Jess knew he stayed in his room and secretly played video games. "I hope you realize now that I'm here you're going to be spending every single second of your holidays with me!" She laughed once more, she was speaking the partial truth though. So maybe not every second but Jess was going to make the most of Jenny being off by hanging out with her. She couldn't imagine the months that would follow without Jenny being around. |

Jennifer smiled appreciatively as Jess said that things would be better. She didn't know if it would but with her best friend being there with her she felt as if it would be. When her friend said that it would be fine she excitedly smiled and exclaimed, "Great!" She couldn't help but brighten up at the thought of seeing her 'family'. As Jessica said it was likely that they would probably be unpacking. Anything is better then being at home, she thought as she wrapped her arms around Jessica's shoulders and walked along the mall with her best friend, whilst speaking, "It's better then spending Christmas at Hogwarts." "I hope you realize now that I'm here you're going to be spending every single second of your holidays with me!" Jenny laughed, she did already know this, it had been like that back in North America and she was over ecstatic to be with her best friend during this Christmas break to make up with the one they had missed. As she let her friend go and continued walking beside her at a regular pace she said with her Canadian accent, "I'll hold ya to that." |

Jess grinned as Jenny said that spending Christmas with her family would be better then spending it at Hogwarts. "Well we'd be glad to have you!" She said happily to her friend as she walked along with her through the mall. When Jenny laughed at what she said she couldn't help but laugh either, laughing with Jenny was something she missed desperately. The whole thing seemed pretty surreal, when Jenny left Jess had mentally prepared herself to never see the girl again and the all of a sudden shes walking and laughing with her in New Zealand? She wasn't complaining, it was amazing! "Alright so on a scale of one to ten how much did you miss me?" She asked her with a cheeky grin, the tip of her tongue just peeking out between her teeth. |
