((OK, here's the deal. It's probably a good idea for you all to read Emer's biography (see signature) so you have some idea of what her (and your) life has been like and for a description of our house in Collingwood. Your father was a muggle who died in April 2020 on a mountaineering trip. He was quietly accepting of the magical world but we tried not to overwhelm him with it at home. Since he passed away, there has been a bit more magic happening around the house. I've written very basic character traits for you all, but feel free to 'grow out' of them or ignore them all together. All: ~Love for outdoors ~Inherited your father's incredible musical talent ~Rosiee ignores popular fashion ~Twins follow popular fashions at school (e.g. current trend at their school is to have very very black hair - they turned half of their room black trying to magically dye each other's hair!) ~Ollie goes to cubs ~Faxen goes to Brownies and is a good runner. None of you have been to Brightstone or Obsidian Harbour before. I've sheltered you from the wizarding world, wanting you to live normal muggle lives, but now that Mākutu Mall has opened nearby and I've decided to open my shop, it's time to expose you to the magical world. I had a haphazard education but tried to teach you as much as I could. You can all do the lumos/nox spells and other simple things. I have begun to teach Rosiee and the twins how to apparate because it took me ages to learn and I want you to be ready when you're old enough to get your licenses. So there are some areas where you know more than kids at Hogwarts and others where you know less. You don't know about Hogwarts yet, but I will tell you about it in this RP.)) Today was a big day. Emer had told all her kids that they were going shopping today. There had been a bit of grumbling, but she'd promised them all one item, whatever they chose. They were confused when she said they weren't taking the car, as the closest shopping mall was an hour away by car. Instead, she led them just out of town to the old abandoned house that the muggle children told ghost stories about. It was only a ten minute walk. As they drew closer to Mākutu Mall, she heard her kids' reactions to the transformation. Just a few months ago, this had been an old abandoned house. Now, thanks to a local entrepeneur, it was the South Island's first magical mall. "What do you think? They're all magical shops. There's so much cool stuff here. And... you'll see why I quit my job at the library!" Emer smiled. |

Faxen Lowart skipped along beside her mother. Her straight brown hair was pulled up in a ponytail. She was bouncing around with excitement. Her energy knew no bounds especially when she was looking forward to something. They were on their way shopping. It confused the nine year old girl slightly that they were not taking the car, but were walking. In the distance, Faxen could see the old muggle haunted house. "Mum, where are we going?" she asked in a high, musical voice. She was curious as to why they were heading towards that old house. Suddenly, it transformed in front of the young girl's eyes. It now looked like a brand new, fun mall. Faxen jumped up and down. "Look! Mum! Wow, did ya see that!? How did that happen? Where did it come from?" she asked as she bounced around her family. Faxen was full of questions. Edited by Faxen Lowart, Nov 3 2009, 03:55 PM.

Excited for the day, Rosiee can't wait to go shopping. They call her fashion hater but this time around that she need some new clothes, it wont be her name for the day. Walking excitedly with her family, wearing her nicely done outfit that Rosiee picked for her self. As going nearer to an abandoned building, she raised one eyebrow and was curious why are they there. "Is it me or just my eyes ... I'm even wearing my glasses." She told them turning to her mom. "Were seriously going in their?" Rosiee asked but didn't wait for her mom's respond. It turns out that the abandoned building became a brand new one. "Woah! .. That stuffs doesn't happen all the time." Rosiee simply looked to the others. |

Strangely enough, they weren't taking the car today. Where on earth are we going shopping? thought Cale in a slightly grumpy manner. It was too early in the morning to go shopping. It was the weekend, so breakfast was at twelve for Cale. Nine in the morning on a Saturday? C'mon mum, he groaned inwardly. Ksaafa was lagging behind, so Cale sped up to walk beside Emer. "Hey mum," he said, tugging on her shirt. "Thanks for that hair control stuff or whatever," he grinned. "Where'd you get it anyway?" Cale had decided to go back to his naturally curly hair this week, but this time it was jet black like the bottle had said it would be. His bedroom was cool, covered in splatters of black dye after he and Ksaafa's last hair fiasco, but now he could literally do whatever he wanted with his hair whenever he wanted. The twins were fighting over the bottle for some time after he had tested it out. As they rounded the corner, the little group reached the old abandoned house down the lane. Cale quirked an eyebrow at Emer and turned to look back at the house - or lack of. For there in its place was spread a simply enormous shopping mall that certainly hadn't been there three seconds ago. Rather than speaking he simply let his mouth hang open for a moment, looking for all the world like a stunned mullet. Half a minute later, he exclaimed "Holy cow!". Cale whipped around excitedly. "This is where you got that hair stuff, wasn't it? Dude, this's so cool!" |

Ksaafa was still asleep. Well, not quite, but he might as well have been. There was nothing Ksaafa liked less than shopping with the family. He glared at Faxen skipping about and making way too much noise. How could anyone be so... awake at this unnatural hour? He allowed himself to fall behind the rest of his family. Scuffing his yellow jandals along the road, he drifted off into his own little dream world until the shouts of his siblings brought him back to reality. He looked up and saw where the old 'ghost house' used to be, a brand new mall. It appeared to have been built in the older style of a pedestrian precinct with shops scattered about in different buildings, but it was definitely new. Ksaafa was sure of that, because he'd been down here with some older kids from town in the winter. They'd all been daring each other to go in, but no-one had. Ksaafa would have, if Cale hadn't been at home, sick in bed. It just didn't seem right to go into a haunted house without him. It wouldn't be fair on Cale. Ksaafa's face broke into a grin. He didn't say anything but walked up to his twin brother and high-fived him, then bent down to his younger brother, "Ollie, my man, we're about to see some magic!" When he stood up again he turned to his mother, "How long has this place been here? I didn't think there were enough wizards around here to make a whole mall." As they walked closer, Ksaafa saw the names of some of the shops. And... was that a... club? Ksaafa grinned and nudged Cale, nodding in the direction of the club. If only their friends from school could see this. |

((P.S. Emer made basic wands for all of you. They're not very strong (because the wand is supposed to choose the wizard, but she just made these for you), but they're ok. Really, she'd just made Rosiee one to practice her wand-making skills, then the rest of you demanded wands too! 8 1/2" Totara wands with weka wing membrane core - all the same.))Emer looked down, expecting it to have been Ollie who had pulled on her shirt, but it was Cale. She smiled and told him, "Well, I met a woman who makes it. Her name's Merry, and she owns a shop called Clarity's. She's invited us all to visit, actually, but you can have a look around first." Emer smiled delightedly as her kids reacted to the sight of the new mall. She reached for little Oliver's hand. He was growing up fast, but he was still her baby, and she suspected she saw a little nervousness in his eyes. She laughed good-naturedly, "Yes, Faxen, I saw it. It was built just a few months ago. Muggles can't see it because their way of seeing is different to ours, they'll still see the old abandoned house." She watched Rosiee carefully for her reaction. Her first born was growing up way too fast, in Emer's eyes, and she was glad when the thirteen year old responded in her normal manner. "Well, Rosiee, things like that happen all the time at this mall. You'll get used to it." Ksaafa's comment immediately made Emer think of how little her kids knew about the wizarding world. Sure, she'd taught them witchcraft and wizardry, but nothing of the culture. To be honest, Emer didn't know much herself, but she knew more than her offspring. She knew, for example, that there was a huge school just across the Cook Strait, filled with teen-aged witches and wizards. She knew what Obsidian Harbour and Brightstone were like. She knew that some people looked down on muggle-borns and mixed-blooded witches and wizards. It broke her heart to think of exposing her babies to the bad things, but it filled her with pride to introduce them to the wonders of the world where magic was a normal, everyday thing, and not just something in fairy tales. "You know my secret room off my bedroom that you can't get into? I've been making lots of inventions in there, and I'm selling them here. I'm starting my own shop!" They approached Natural Magic and Emer pointed it out proudly. "It's not quite set up yet, but it'll be ready to open when school gets out... Hogwarts school that is." She waited to see if any of them would take the bait. She'd made the decision the moment she heard about Hogwarts New Zealand opening, that she didn't want to send her kids there, and hadn't bothered mentioning it to them. However, they had to find out about it sooner or later, and if that meant they wanted to go... well, she'd cross that bridge when she came to it. She was almost on tip-toes anticipating the question What's Hogwarts? - would it be Rosiee? Not Ksaafa, he was half asleep; maybe Faxen? She was particularly alert this morning... or maybe Cale? Ollie? Emer couldn't help but hold her breath. |

Faxen's eyes widened as she looked at her mum's new shop. She had no clue that her mum wanted to make things for other people to buy. "Oh wow! Mum! How long have you been planning it?" she asked, her energy not depreciating at all. She was still bouncing around her siblings and mother. Faxen always had an abundance of energy. It was part of the reason she was such a good runner. Faxen frowned when she heard the name of an unfamiliar school. Hogwarts, what an odd name. "What's Hogwarts mum?" she asked curiously. |

Looking at her siblings she could see that they are excited as her. But hearing that her mom has a shop there, she couldn't get curious. "Why secreting it from us mom, you have a shop here but not telling us." She's not mad but locking it to Emer's self is isn't funny. "But I'm not mad, I'm just telling." After blabbering, Rosiee looked to the other shops there. It was so magnificent that she wanted to go all along the shops, she was going to say something but Emer got first saying about a school named Hogwarts. "Wait ... What's Hogwarts?" She asked curious again, "I think that school is so popular around here ... I've heard it somewhere but I didn't remember where." after saying it she shrugged her shoulder and went to looked at the shops again. |

Cale's mind was officially blown. Not only had mum hidden the fact that there was a magical shopping mall not ten minutes down the road from them, but that she had bought a shop and there were hot witches everywhere. Cale matches Ksaafa's grin with his own as he pointed out the club, and sure enough there some fine girls walking in and out. Well, obviously they were a bit old for him but what did it matter? They're freakin' gorgeous! Cale whistled as a pair of thirteen year old twins walking past, who giggled and began whispering to each other. "I love this place already," said Cale merrily to his own twin. He also had to meet this woman called Merry. If she had invented that hair control stuff, she must have all kinds of wicked inventions that he's love to see. Apparently mum was getting inventing as well. "Mum, you're being excruciating! C'mon, show us where the shop is, let's have a look!". Sure enough, they reached the shop front, and Cale almost fell over in excitement. This was so worth waking up at nine in the morning. Yet he paused in his usual bundle-of-bliss dance and asked at the same time as Faxen, "What's Hogwarts mum?". Somehow he felt that this was something he needed to hear. Cale shared a look with Ksaafa before stopping his shuffling from foot to foot to listen. |

Ollie, the youngest of the five, was a little bit out of his depth with this. Basic, simple magic was one thing - but this whole magical world...now that was a little frightening. Perhaps not frightening, more just...overwhelming. Whatever it was, Ollie was pretty stunned. Mummy opened up a shop? Here? Wow! Ollie simply chose to remain silent for the time being, trying to get his bearing and come to terms with his surroundings. But when Hogwarts came up, he piped up in his small voice, a second after his siblings, "yeah mummy, what's Hogwarts?" ((short and lame post is short and lame, I am sorry D: )) |

Ok, so those questions hadn't been too bad. It was the ones that would come after the explanation that Emer really dreaded. She smiled at all her kids, proud that they were inquisitive and confident. She squeezed Oliver's hand. Taking a breath, she started to answer the questions that her kids had seemed to explode with, "Well, I've been thinking about it for a while; I've been wanting to get more involved with the wizarding world, and let you guys see what it's like, too. When I heard about the mall, and that new girl came into the library asking about a job, it just seemed like the perfect timing. I wasn't really hiding it, I just needed to get everything sorted before I opened up. And you know you'd never have let me alone long enough to concentrate once you knew about it." Emer smiled. She pretended to be annoyed when her kids wouldn't leave her alone, but really, that was what she loved about being a mum - the fact that someone always needed her for something or other, even if it was just to tell the awful joke they'd heard at school that day. She pointed up ahead at the shop with the sign: Natural Magic | erutaN lacigaM. "It's that one up there." Her kids all rushed to the window and peered in as she unlocked the door. Even Ksaafa seemed to wake up a little. "Now you all come here and listen for a minute, then you can go off and have a look around," Emer stood in the doorway of her new shop. "You might see some teenagers about wearing robes and uniforms. They're from Hogwarts. It's a magical school in the North Island. Rosiee and Cale and Ksaafa were all invited to go, and I'm sure you two will be as well," she smiled at Faxen and Ollie. "Remember I've told you I used to have penpals at a magical school in England? That was the original Hogwarts. This one, Hogwarts New Zealand opened 7 and a half years ago." she looked at Rosiee and worried that she'd hidden her invitation from her. It wasn't entirely true that the twins had been invited, but that was because she'd sent an owl to Hogwarts after Rosiee's letter explaining that she was home-schooling all her kids and they wouldn't need invitations to Hogwarts. It could have been different. If Rosiee hadn't been so sick the week of her 11th birthday, she'd have been able to read the letter herself and perhaps she'd have wanted to go. But of course that was what Emer was afraid of. She didn't want to have to say goodbye to her babies just yet. Turning to her older three, who she knew would be eager to explore on their own, she said, "If you do see anyone your age, it's okay to talk to them. Ask them about Hogwarts, it'll be good for you to know. Just be careful, don't go anywhere you're not comfortable, and don't talk to older witches or wizards," she noticed Ksaafa rolling his eyes at the stranger danger talk, and reached out for his chin, making sure he looked her in the eye, "You never know what they might be capable of." Well, it was done. She'd actually encouraged her kids to learn about Hogwarts. Of course, she'd learned when Rosiee was just a baby that telling a child they couldn't do or have something just made them want it even more, so she had been careful to avoid that trap. She just didn't know what others might be laid for her. ((Don't worry about short posts. And excuse the godmod of Ksaafa, Emma is super busy. And Emma, if you're reading this, get off HNZ and do some work!)) |

Going at the said shop their mom had said a few words so that they can go and explore the other shops in the said mall. Rosiee listened and even rolled her eyes at the 'Don't talked to strangers' line. The only kid who had to listen to it is Oliver and Faxen who are both young to roam around the mall. Plus the Hogwarts thing, it really curious her of what kind of students are there. After the brief talking about safety, Rosiee spoked, "So, whose with me?" being the oldest she had to take care of the youngest and that will be Oliver and Faxen. "So?" Rosiee asked again. |
